I'm Teresa
Now, why would I make a bold statement like that? Read on to find out....
Cancer Stats:
First, let’s cover some cancer stats. According to AARP, as of 2018, the average cost of cancer treatments was $150,000. In my personal experience, the total cost of my treatments and surgeries were north of $275,000 in 2022. I know, inflation, right?
Plus, not only are cancer patients two and half times more likely to file for bankruptcy compared to their healthy counterparts, but cancer patients who go bankrupt are eighty percent (80%) more likely to die from the disease than cancer patients who could afford their treatments, according to studies from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle.
I believe it’s because their immune systems are further challenged by the stress caused by the financial burden of the disease.

How my policy saved my life
My life insurance policy came with living benefits riders, which means that in case I get diagnosed with a critical, chronic, or terminal illness, I’m allowed to accelerate the death benefit, which is the money that my husband and daughter would’ve inherited in case I passed away.
In this case, since I was diagnosed with cancer, which is considered a critical or terminal illness depending on the stage, I was able to get money from my life insurance policy. This allowed me to focus on my health and healing and not stress about the financial burden of the disease.
Thankfully, I’m happy to say that I am now cancer-free!
